Baked French Toast

This is a basic recipe for delicious French toast made with regular white bread cut into strips and soaked overnight in an egg and milk mixture.

French Toast Sticks

Ingredients

8 slices white bread
5 eggs
1-1/2 cup whole milk
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

Lightly grease a 13 by 9 by 2-inch baking pan. Cut each slice of bread into 2 even strips. Arrange bread strips in pan.

In large bowl, mix eggs, milk, sugar, and vanilla with an electric mixer on low speed until well- blended, about 5 minutes.

Pour egg mixture over bread strips; cover. Chill 4 to 24 hours.

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Bake until eggs are set and toast is lightly browned, about 30 to 40 minutes. Serve with Cinnamon Sugar Topping.

Note: Dramatically cut fat and calories by using skim or 2 percent milk in place of whole milk and egg substitute in place of whole eggs. Nutrition information below is for the recipe made with whole milk and eggs.
